The ExamIQ SHSAT English program is designed to challenge and inspire students while delivering outstanding results. With weekly English group lessons, students master grammar from basic to advanced levels, analyze reading comprehension passages, and poetry as well as expand their vocabulary by learning Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes for lifelong benefits. As an added bonus, parents can choose the course that teaches various essay styles to strengthen writing skills. This comprehensive all-in-one course prepares students not only for the Specialized High School Admissions Test, but also for private school, scholarship, and state exams and teaches students how to write essays.
Group lessons meet once per week. As part of homework, students draft and submit several writing assignments per week, discussing their essays with the tutor during the lesson and from home via email. Weekly progress reports are shared with parents. This course is designed for students who prefer a challenge and to learn life-long skills that will benefit them in college and beyond. At least 16 lessons per semester (often up to 20 sessions offered).
SHSAT Math section is comprised of elements of seventh, eighth and ninth grade level math. ExamIQ offers private math lessons. This allows us to provide a customized approach to each student's individual needs. As students aquire the math skills and knowledge nessesary for the SHSAT, they are grouped to allow for additional time for lessons, practice tests and afforrdability.
